Read and study the Owner's Manual. Then read and study it again.
Check at your local library for books on photography. While there, check the photography magazines they have. Pick one you especially like and subscribe to it.
I'm sorry there is no ';magic wand'; to wave to make you a skilled photographer. It takes time and practice and experimentation and making mistakes and learning from them.Anyone with general advice on how to take good pics with this camera?

Don't worry about lights, tripod and anything else just yet - I think the most important thing in photography is yourself - whether you have a good sense in photography or not, that is.
Composition plays an important part when it comes to photography. Learn about it first. Take a look around - anything from real life to photograph to painting.
Learn how to work with your camera - read the manual, try to play around with it a little bit, try take experimental shots on your own and just have fun with it.
