Any advice on how to pay for things while on vacation in Canada? ?

I live in United States.I am going on vacation to Niagara Falls,ON and Toronto. I am trying to figure out what is the best way to pay while I'm there. I hardly ever use cash here, I prefer plastic but I am looking for the cheapest way to avoid extra fees. If your answer is cash, then which is better to have, US or Canadian?Any advice on how to pay for things while on vacation in Canada? ?
My sister visited Canada and she lives in the States. She had $500 in cash and when she exchanged it, after fees, she had $504.36. It's not much of a difference, but it's more cash. She did this two months ago, and the Canadian dollar is declining so I'd expect you to get more for your dollar.

If you decide to just keep it American, Canadians take it $1 for $1.Any advice on how to pay for things while on vacation in Canada? ?
Use your credit card, but make sure that your bank does not charge a fee for converting currency. Although US money is always accepted, the exchange rate is not favorable. If you want cash (CDN) I suggest that you go to an ATM machine in Canada. There will be a fee but it will be lower than what you will pay at a currency exchange place, and the fee at an ATM is same whether you take out $100.00 or $1000.00. If you have a limit on the amount you can take from an ATM, ask you bank manager to change that limit temporarily. You can always ask your bank manager to order Canadian currency; this is quite common in states along the border (most of whom have a stash of CDN money on hand), but there will probably be a fee. Again, as long as your credit card company does not charge a fee for international purchases, the best bet is to pay with the card.
Definitely cash to avoid extra fees. Whenever I go down to the states I always get a ton of US currency and use it for everything. Canadian cash will be better to use in Canada, especially Toronto. Enjoy your vacation and having a 1 dollar and 2 dollar coin for a while :P
i would keep canadian cash and canada is expensive i live here and u better have money if u wanna have fun and yr piece of sh it american money isnt higher then ours anymore so yr gonna need a lot of money
Pretty much anywhere in Niagara Falls and Toronto will take US cash. Whenever we go stateside, we use plastic so that we don't have extra US cash hanging around but if you're not using that - take US cash and exchange as needed.
Canadian cash, you'll save money and it's inconvienient for stores if you pay in american.

Enjoy your time here!
