Just wondered if anyone had any tips on where to be on the strip at new year. Maybe any other must knows that you can tell us to make sure that this new year is the best.
Where to get a nice meal ( not too Fancy or $$$) on new years day.
What advice can you offer on how to make a new year's eve the best in Las Vegas?
Good luck on the strip on NY. Like cattle. They close down the strip to traffic around 5PM and you can walk all around the street which feels great .. then the casinos lock their doors and if you are not a guest at the hotel with a key you can't get in. Think of using the restrooms after consuming all that liquor. Then as midnight nears the police will push everyone off the street and onto the sidewalks where you will be crammed in like sardines. Hold on to your purse and wallets and don't be surprised if a drink or two gets spilled all over you. After the fireworks good luck in trying to get off the strip or back to your hotel if staying on the strip. It will take hours to get to where you want after wards.
Some advice ... try the Rio where you can see all the fireworks and not have to deal with the crowds on the strip. There you can have the fun without the hastle. What advice can you offer on how to make a new year's eve the best in Las Vegas?

It's going to be packed! The Strip is crowded on any given day of the week (as I'm sure you know), but with New Year's Eve, it's going to be packed tight like sardines. You might want to stay around by your hotel. And it's good you're getting there a little early, and staying late after so hopefully the New Year's revelers will be gone.
As others have said, start pencilling in your plans now. Make reservations at your favorite restaurant. There are all sorts of Web sites on Vegas that you can check out. Sure you can even see videos of Vegas on New Year's Eve on youtube and other sites.
Not to be a party pooper, but don't set your sights so high, to think, THIS HAS GOTTA BE THE BESTEST EVER NEW YEAR'S!!! Just get there, go with the flow, don't have all these expectations. Just revel in it!! :)
HAVE FUN!
New Years is usually crowded with long lines for eating except those places that accept reservations. I would make a reservation NOW for whatever you can get.
You realize that the Strip closes at dark from Treasure Island to the Mandalay Bay, like NY Times Square and is full of people. The fun can be outdoors but they have not announced yet if there will be fireworks this year (due to the bad economy).
If you want to go to a show that night, get the tickets NOW or you will not get any.
Otherwise, just take it a slow day at a time and enjoy the city, especially before and after New Years Eve.

I went to Vegas in the summer, but haven't been for New Years. I thought the views from the Strasphere were amazing, so maybe it'd be could to see the fireworks from there?
Getting tickets for a show could be tricky on New Years Eve, but you could go to the Bellagio fountains or Treasure Island show as no tickets are needed.
I would assume that the whole strip will be a big party zone. But I really don't know.
However for a very nice romantic meal, try Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Casino. This is my absolute favorite in Vegas.

Be sure to sit outside, the inside is more formal and feels crowded.
