there is a book called Mental Toolbox,You can get if from amazon on the net,it has a dvd aswell to help you.It cured me.
There is a saying in the mental health field; ';if the only tool you have in your kit is a hammer, you tend to treat everything as a nail';. So it goes with doctors, and their prescription pads: handy, quick, and convenient, when trying to get rid of someone in 10 mns, so they can see the next patient.

With anxiolytics (anti-anxiety medication, such as Lexapro, or Paxil, which treat both anxiety and depression) you are only addressing the symptoms, and even then, often only temporarily, as your system becomes used to it, and you have to accept the risks of an increased suicide/homicide rate, aberrant behaviour, and side effects, such as possible sexual dysfunction (common). For those reasons, I recommend first trying the alternatives, which not only treat the symptoms, using herbal remedies, but the cause, as well, using EFT, and relaxation techniques. The antidepressants/anxiolytics will still be there, should the alternatives prove insufficient for you.

See anxiety treatments, at ezy build (below) in section 6. Set yourself a specific time period for worrying about anything, (say; a half an hour, or an hour, possibly when you get home in the evening, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even entertain the thought of worrying again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your ';worry time'; for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: ';Well, I'll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won't I?';. Use the technique for reprogramming negative thoughts and internal monologue (self talk), on pages 2, and 2L, to help you in this, if you find yourself backsliding into your former bad habits. Some people carry a wide rubber band in their pocket: put it on their wrist; stretch, and release, as a means of reinforcing it, and speeding up the process, re-pocketing it afterwards, but I regard this as being purely optional.

Practice one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Alternatively, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris also refer: ';Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.'; Neurofeedback treatment for anxiety is increasingly becoming available. Herbal remedies, such as St.John's wort, arctic root, or Valerian are often effective, but the idea is to use them like water wings, or training wheels on a bicycle, giving time for other treatments, such as therapy, and relaxation techniques, to take effect. LOW COST/FREE COUNSELLING: Contact your county/local mental health agency, and find out what help they can offer. Psychological counselling, with a sliding scale, based on income, is available through many religious organisations, such as Catholic counselling, the Methodist church, and the Unitarian Universalists. You don't have to be a member.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to avoid anxiety in life. Everyone has problems which must be dealt with. The key to coping with it, is to handle things one step at a time. You can only do. what you can do. No sense in killing yourself trying to solve all the problems at one time. This just isn't going to happen.

I had alot of stress and anxiety at one time and I found taking St.Johns Wort really helped me and they are not full of chemicals, it is a natural product. Try Googleing it and find out more. Hope you start to feel good soon. x
I have just started a short term course of low milligramme diazepam 3 times a day for my anxiety. It doesn't make me sleepy or anything but has reduced my anxiety level to a level I can deal with and I am already starting to feel more like myself and am now in a state of mind where i am starting to address some of the things that were causing my anxiety. Medication was the last option as I had already tried all the alternative therapies but it has been a god send. talk to your GP about something short term to help. Good luck
Love, Trust, and Forgiveness are cures for anxiety. God's word shows how God earned the right to forgive all that come to Him. He empowers His followers to forgive others the wrongs they have committed against you. To know God is to Love Him and perfect love casts out all fear - the sure cure for anxiety. May you begin to know God's blessings today.

it works.
xfrecklesx, try this bring your attention to this moment. and ask this question! what am i thinking? likely you are thinking about something bad from the past or something bad that is gonna happen in the future ( i.e. tomorrow or the next ... or next week!! ) if you just for a few seconds bring your attention to this moment you will likely find that nothing is really wrong with this moment and you will feel a slight relief of your anxiety. Our thoughts tend to make us anxious. that is likely what is happening to you. i know this sound a little silly, but find an object like a flower and keep it near you. when you feel anxious look at it and bring your attention to it (this moment) this will give you some relief from your thoughts. the key is try to keep your attention on it as long as you can (even a few seconds will help) you will start to be able to do it longer and longer and this will help I promise. try to keep this in mind. your thoughts are only thoughts they are not you! don take them to seriously! good luck!
